Our Developer’s Perspective
Our goal was clear when we started developing Sorted Wallet: make decentralized finance accessible to everyone, particularly feature phone users in underserved areas. It was more than just a technical challenge to develop a user-friendly, safe, and lightweight application for low-bandwidth settings—it was a statement of inclusivity. We think that the fact that millions of people still use simple devices shouldn't prevent them from using digital financial tools.

We had a functional MVP of the app at first, but after meeting the Sorted team in Hong Kong, things really took off. It was two or three days of fruitful sessions, shared meals, city exploration, and—most importantly—alignment on the long-term vision. It was more than just a client meeting. We were able to grasp the wider picture thanks to those discussions.

Together, we made the decision to completely redesign the app with a greater focus on performance optimization, feature improvements, and user experience—particularly for Android smartphones and feature phones running KaiOS. Even though we only had a one to two month window to work within, the enthusiasm and clarity from those face-to-face conversations helped keep things moving forward.

As the lead developers for Android, we focused on creating a consistent user experience across platforms so that users, whether they owned smartphones or just had simple phones, could send or receive cryptocurrency, keep track of balances, and easily manage their digital finances. Developing technology that meets users where they are and gives them the ability to take charge of their financial future was more important to us than simply shipping a product.Looking ahead, we have more development ahead of us.
